| I need voice activated typing software | | My daughter vaguely remembers having software on an older laptop that was voice activated (no hands) typing. Does anyone know if you can get this for desktop computers? And what do I look for? I went to PC world and found "Dragon Naturally speaking" which sounds like what we want, but there were only two reviews. One liked it, the other hated it, said tech support was expensive, said it wouldn't work on the new 64 bit laptop they bought for their grandmother etc. etc. etc. Does anyone know anything? Thanks... | |

| Can you Type without looking at the keyboard!!??!! | | Well, to be honest with you i can not type without looking at the keyboard. There are some alphabets that i can type but there are many more that i cant!! Though i am good at the numbers, i can type numbers without looking at the keyboard. Planning to learn to type looking at the moniter and not the keyboard. I have not found the perfect "typing tutor" online yet but i am still looking for one that has a lot of practise sessions. What about you, can type looking at the computer screen?? | |
| | typing speed | | one of the skills that our teacher required from the students is having a typing speed of 35 words per minute (wpm) and above. On the first day of classes, we were told to open the typing software and start typing. One can hear the fast clicking of the keyboards as the students typed with all their might in order to get a high typing speed rate. After ten minutes, we were told to stop and our typing rates were recorded. Then we were told to type the paragraph shown on the screen without looking at the keyboard. Suddenly the room become so quiet and one can hear only occasional clicking of the keys. After three minutes we were told to stop and again our rates were recorded and compared to the first typing rate recorded. We were really dismayed with the results. I got a 6 wpm compared to my 30 wpm earlier. However with constant practice and determination, I was able to raise this speed to 40 wpm in 10 days time. Our topnotcher in the class attained a speed of 70 wpm. It is not surprising considering that she worked also as an encoder in the billing section of a public hospital in our place. | |

| Are You A Pecker? | | I use two fingers to type. I've never taken a keyboarding class and I'm too old to have taken a computer class in school. I don't have any desire to learn now, much less pay money for someone to teach me. I am too lazy to memorize the keys. I can type relatively fast and make few mistakes. I am better now, because my left index finger was used solely for the shift key, now I can pluck letters with it too.
My children laugh at me because they can type without looking at the keyboard, I have to type a sentance and then check the screen to see if the letters I wanted to peck actually appeared on the screen. When I'm out and I have to type in front of someone, I get a bit embarrassed at my pecking abilities. I say if I get it right and I'm relatively quick, it shouldn't matter. Are you a pecker? Do you know a pecker?Do you respond to discussions with misleading headers? | |
