| Are tourists afraid of South Africa? | | I keep hearing on the news about tourists' worries about the crime in South Africa, and how dangerous it is to visit our country, even during the world cup. Admittedly, SA does have a much higher crime rate than most countries, but it's not nearly as bad as the media tends to make it out to be. Security businesses are unable to meet the massive demands of tourists for bodyguards and general "babysitting" of tourists during the world cup, and it makes me wonder if things haven't been blown slightly out of proportion. I think what is most frustrating to us living in South Africa, is how incidents in other African countries, such as the shooting of the togo bus, are suddenly linked to South Africa and its hosting of the world cup. That would be the equivelant of saying that a world cup should not be hosted in Germany, because of a car bomb in Portugal. Africa, like Europe, is a continent... not a country. So, what are you myLotters' opinions on the matter? Do you hear that South Africa is an unsafe, dangerous place? And what makes people believe so? | |

| | | have you heard of the child soldiers in africa? | | Recently, I was able to do a writing assignment on the book "A Long Way Gone" by Ishmael Beah and so I got to read the book. It was very touching in a way because it tackled the life of a 12 year old boy who was forced to become a child soldier in Sierra Leone in Africa. The book goes into gory details of how much a child's life changes because of the civil war which took place there in the 1990s up to the early 2000s. There are still child soldiers in Africa today, and they are still being utilized by both the military and the rebels to further their respective causes.I really pity these kids because they are brainwashed, made to watch violent films and given drugs to heighten their aggressive behaviors so they can be used for selfish ends by those in power. Their innocent minds are easily manipulated by those pretending to help them, but when these kids die, they are easily dispensed with and just forgotten. The UN is also helpless about the situation because powerful persons who control diamond cartels are said to be behind these practices. What do you think of these kids? If you were in Africa, would you allow your child to be part of this practice? | |

| I pity South Africa and NewZealand | | I pity South Africa and New Zealand, they have the talent but they never have luck enough to make to the semis and finals of the big tournaments.
Especially south Africa, they have great team on the paper not for the first time. But this time they played too slow that they could not make the run rate at the end.
Pressure plays a lot in cricket and also does "LUCK".
South Africa go and get some of it from Pakistan!! | |
